Spokane law enforcement stress importance of early education

As part of a national “Invest In Kids” campaign, area law enforcement leaders visited children at Spokane’s Downtown YWCA. Citing a research brief called “Pay Now or Pay Much More Later,” law enforcement leaders said that investing in high-quality learning can help at-risk children in Washington succeed in school, significantly reduce the likelihood that they will commit crimes and save taxpayer dollars from reduced prison costs. Sheriff Ozzie Knezovich, Attorney Steve Tucker, and Spokane Chief of Police Anne Kirkpatrick spoke out on concerns about state budget cuts to early education.
