**MEDIA ADVISORY FOR WEDNESDAY MAY 25** Prosecutor to Release New Report Showing Early Education Cuts Crime, Saves Taxpayer Dollars
DAYTON, Ohio – Montgomery County Prosecutor Mat Heck will visit a Dayton childcare center on Wednesday at 3:00 p.m. to release a report on the value of early childhood education in reducing crime and lowering prison costs.
Before visiting a class and reading to students in an early learning program at Mini University, Prosecutor Heck will release a new report showing that investing in high-quality early care and education in Ohio can help at-risk children succeed, significantly reduce the likelihood that they will commit crimes and save taxpayer dollars through reduced prison costs.
The national anti-crime organization FIGHT CRIME: INVEST IN KIDS is sponsoring the event as part of a nationwide campaign to promote high-quality early childhood education. Police chiefs, sheriffs, and prosecutors attorneys in all 50 states are urging Congress to oppose cuts to these programs and to support efforts to strengthen early care and education. Hundreds of thousands of children nationwide could lose access to these programs if Congress and the states do not prioritize funding for these programs during ongoing budget talks.
