NEW YORK CITY (January 28, 2011)-Rensselaer County District Attorney Richard McNally accepted the Champion for Children Award from the anti-crime group Fight Crime: Invest in Kids, Friday. The award recognized D.A. McNally for his support for programs that help kids get the right start in life and also cut crime in the long run, including early childhood education and other interventions for at-risk children.

D.A. McNally is a member of Fight Crime: Invest in Kids New York, a statewide anti-crime group of more than 300 police chiefs, sheriffs, district attorneys and violence survivors. He has been an active member with the group for three years, participating in news conferences, volunteering for other activities to raise awareness about effective children’s programs.

Fight Crime: Invest in Kids New York State Director Meredith Wiley praised D.A. McNally for advocating for programs that help at-risk children reach their potential and steer clear of trouble later in life. D.A. McNally said that he is proud of the work that Fight Crime: Invest in Kids does in support of crime-prevention and helping New York’s at-risk children.

“New York’s prosecutors are no strangers to criminal offenders and troubled youth; we know that we can do much more to make New York communities safer by supporting programs that help kids get the right start in life,” D.A. McNally said. “I’m proud to be a member of Fight Crime: Invest in Kids, and I hope prosecutors across New York and the nation will consider joining this effort to fight crime by investing in kids.”

The award presentation occurred during the Winter Conference of the District Attorneys Association of New York at the Grand Hyatt New York. Franklin County District Attorney Derek Champagne, current president of the District Attorneys Association of New York, presented the award to D.A. McNally, who has been a member of Fight Crime: Invest in Kids since 2008.
