Troubled Kids


·       Improve zero tolerance policies that have tended to displace kids rather than educate them.

·       Reduce dropouts and improve high school graduation rates.

·       Promote improved foster care and adoption policies with Michigan Federation for Children and Families.

·       Provide mental health programs for children in need through the federally-funded State Child Health Insurance Program.

·       Support state legislation that encourage school districts to implement bully prevention programs.

·       Support a joint resolution memorializing Congress to advance legislation to address the problem of bullying in our nation’s schools, as part of the 111th Congress’ reauthorization of the No Child Left Behind Act, by amending the Safe and Drug-Free Schools Act to facilitate the implementation of evidence-based bullying prevention program components in every school district across the nation.

·       Support reintroduction of a joint resolution memorializing Congress to enact and fund the Youth PROMISE Act.

·       Research Michigan Profile for Healthy Youth for use in winning policy objectives in threat assessment and prevention of risky behavior in middle and high-school settings.
