MEDIA ADVISORY: Des Moines Law Enforcement Leaders Back Child Tax Credit To Cut Crime

DES MOINES, IOWA — Law enforcement officials from Des Moines will hold a news conference Thursday to support the expansion of federal child tax credits for working families struggling in todays recession. The law enforcement leaders will release new research showing that getting kids out of poverty can help reduce crime.

Because family poverty is closely linked to later involvement in crime, the law enforcement leaders will call on Congress to expand the child tax credit available to lower-income working families. This would lift more children out of poverty, decrease stress on vulnerable families in the weak economy, and decrease the likelihood that the children will commit crimes as adults.
