On March 13 in Chicago, Fight Crime: Invest in Kids Illinois members issued an urgent call to state lawmakers to expand home visiting programs to prevent child abuse as the economy continues to decline. Chicago area law enforcement leaders released a poll, conducted by independent polling firm Mason-Dixon, which shows that 82 percent of Illinois police chiefs, sheriffs, and state’s attorneys fear the deepening recession will lead to more child abuse and neglect. Pictured here are Cook County State's Attorney Anita Alvarez, Chief Kelly Jackson from the Cook County Sheriff's Department, and Brookfield Police Chief Steven Stelter. Also attending the news conference were Evanston Township High School Director of Safety Frank Kaminski, Chief of Investigations Kevin O'Connell from the Illinois Attorney General's Office, and Chief of Patrol Gene Williams from the Chicago Police Department.
